Advocate Christ Medical Center Joins Elite Hospitals in Illinois with New Heart Transplant Program

In June, Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board members voted unanimously in favor of Christ Medical Center's application to establish a heart-transplant program, which will be headed by Mark Slaughter, M.D. The medical center already performs more open-heart surgeries than any other hospital in the state, and it is anticipated that its heart-transplantation surgeons will be similarly busy.

More good news: Christ Medical Center is one of only a handful of hospitals in Illinois to receive the American Heart Association's Sustained Achievement Award for coronary artery disease care in 2007. The hospital's status as a major teaching hospital, its commitment to stay at the forefront of medicine by participating in clinical trials, and the generosity of donors are all critical to Christ Medical Center's ongoing excellence.
First Advisor Alliance Program is a Huge Success

Advocate Health Care Advisor Alliance held its first ever system-wide Advisor Alliance program on October 11 at Medinah Country Club. More than 60 professional advisors participated in a stimulating discussion on the Aging of America—"Dealing with aging clients: capacity vs. incapacity."

The program included a keynote address from the Honorable Patrick T. Murphy, who served as Cook County's public guardian for 25 years, followed by a panel discussion, moderated by Joel Weisman, host and Senior Editor of WTTW's Chicago Tonight: The Week in Review.

The panel included Kirk A. Hoopingarner, Wildman Harrold Allen & Dixon, Charles Slamar Jr., Bank of America, and Dr. William Rhoades, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. Our topic proved to be one with no easy answers, and many attendees commented that they wished the panel discussion had lasted longer. The program was very well received and set the bar high for future Advisor Alliance programs.
